I was born and raised in Vermont. In 1993 I worked as a desk assistant at MacNeil Lehrer NewsHour, then as an associate and field producer in documentary television in New York City until 1998. During the Internet’s venture capital heyday, I was the managing editor of Healthology, the Internet’s largest provider and syndicator of online health content. While there, I wrote article series’ for ABCNews.com and FoxNews.com. During this time, I taught myself how to edit audio and saved up for a digital recorder. In 2003, I moved back to Vermont, had a baby, and started collaborating with Greg Sharrow at the Vermont Folklife Center. I’ve been producing radio and audio work ever since.
My work has aired on NPR’s Day to Day, Hearing Voices, KQED San Francisco, WGBH Boston, VPR, and other public radio affiliates nationwide. I also teach documentary audio production as part of the Discovering Community Summer Institute for Educators and serve as the project director of the Vermont Folklife Center’s audio documentary program for young people, Youth Radio Vermont.
I live in a blue ranch house on the top of a hill in Calais, Vermont, with my son, Henry and three cows.
